This variety of Knapweed commonly grows in the wild across Europe, flaunting its pale purple shaggy flowers at the start of the summer. The green foliage has slightly jagged margins.

It loves hot sunny borders and will grow happily in any free-draining soil, the flowers cut well for floral arrangements. As with all knapweeds it is tolerant of salt-spray making it a suitable candidate for those of you who have coastal gardens. It is perfect for wildlife gardens, its flowers will attract bees and other pollinating insects – C.carniolica self-seeds happily .
