Commonly known as the black Iris, this rhizomatous perennial has narrow grey-green foliage. Delicate Iris flowers appear in late spring, their falls almost black with deep purple margins and yellow veins.

This Iris which is happy in damp, acid to neutral soils, is perfect for bog gardens, planting alongside ponds or streams in sun or partial-shade.

All parts of this plant are toxic.
