Iris ‘Sable’

‘Sable’ has beautiful scented flowers with deep purple falls and purple standards. During summer these blousy blooms appear on erect stems. The large sword-shaped foliage is a grey/green colour.

When planting this Iris in your border pick a sunny position which has well-drained soil and your plant will thrive. ‘Sable’ will also thrive in coastal situations as it is tolerant to salt spray. When the rhizomes become congested lift and divide them, throw away any very old or rotten rhizomes and re-plant the remainder, this is best done after flowering, between midsummer and early autumn, the plants need to re-establish themselves prior to the onset of winter.
